The Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College has created a new teen volunteer program. The Garden has a large team of adult volunteers but is developing this program specifically for teens. The goals of the Teen Corps Program are as follows:

Goals for the Water Conservation Garden

  • To develop a team of young people to assist the Garden in sharing educational information with the public about water conservation
  • To supplement our adult volunteer force with a team of young people committed to and passionate about the environment
  • To make connections with the family and child audience and provide peer education for teen visitors
  • To provide an enthusiastic team of young people to take the Garden’s message to local community events, Earth Day and Sustainability Fairs, etc.
  • To provide additional support for the Garden’s on-site special events (Spring Garden Festival, summer concerts, Mother’s Day Brunch, Fall and Spring Plant Fairs, December Holiday Lighting event, etc.)

Goals for the Teen Volunteer

  • To provide an interesting and exciting community service program for teens
  • To provide valuable pre-employment experiences for teens
  • To help teens develop comfort with and proficiency in public speaking
